Chapter 896
Chapter 896
II
"You know you need it, no need to thank me."
Quentin noticed his gift being unclaimed but remained unfazed. He turned to Christine, "You can handle this however you see fit,
as long as it's done well. I'll have my assistant send you some pointers."
Christine bowed slightly, "Thank you for your trust."
Quentin needed to greet other guests and said to Dailey, "Take Christine for some food, and later we can head upstairs for a
card game."
"And by the way, let Duke Northwood stay and join us for a bit. There are some folks he might work with later, so it's a good
chance to introduce him."
Duke Northwood was too excited to speak, so Christine thanked Quentin on his behalf.
Once Quentin left, Christine gave Duke a gentle pat on the back.
"Come on, Duke! Don't be shy. I might not know much about traditional Western crafts, but you need to showcase your
strengths."
Duke scratched his head, "You're right, Christine. I guess I'm just a bit nervous."
"Let's grab some food and sit over there," she suggested.
"Sure," Duke agreed, heading off to get some snacks.
Just as Christine was about to follow, she felt an arm wrap around her waist. Turning around, she met Dailey's slightly teasing
gaze.
"Shouldn't you be thanking me?" he murmured.
True enough, gratitude was in order for the assistance received.
"Thank you, Mr. Clarkson. How about I treat you to dinner?"
Dailey leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper only they could hear. "I only accept thanks in bed."

Duke Northwood returned with food, noticing the closeness between Christine and Dailey. It dawned on him suddenly.
"You were at dinner that night too! You're Christine's boyfriend!"
Dailey held up Christine's hand, displaying a stunning diamond ring. "Fiancé, actually."
Duke let out a whistle,
"Congratulations, Christine. How et
could you not tell me about such a big event? I didn't even get agift ready."
"Well, when you get married, make sure to invite me. I'll have a big present for you then."
"We're practically family, so no need for formalities. Christine's like a sister to me. It's only natural to look out for her."
"But no matter how capable you are, if you ever make my sister sad, I won't let it slide."
Christine watched as Dailey's demeanor softened, "Don't worry, I'll make sure she's happy."
"That's the spirit," Duke said, settling down to enjoy the food. After all, it was his first time at such a
veľ
high-profile event, and he intended
to make the most of it.
Christine elbowed Dailey gently. "What's wrong with you? Why act like we're actually getting married?"
"We agreed to get married, didn't we? Just had a hiccup when it came to signing the papers."
"If even fate didn't want us to sign, maybe it's a sign we shouldn't be together," Christine retorted.
Dailey's expression grew serious, "The issue with the paperwork was human error, nothing to do with fate."
"I'll handle it, and you won't have to wait long."
Christine shook off his hand, her
tone edged with sarcasm. "Fine, et
for you to sort things out with
your
family and then we can sign."
Dailey's eyes lit up as he gripped her hand tighter. "You promise?"
