Chapter 479
Chapter 479
Before long, the creaky sound of an old spring mattress echoed from the room, loud enough to be heard through the closed door.
One of the thugs, a bit envious, remarked, "Lucky One-Eye gets all the breaks. How'd he land such a prime catch?"
"Would you want that kind of luck? It's a death sentence."
"Just remember, this was all One-Eye's impulsive move. It's got nothing to do with us."
They all nodded in agreement.
They were clearly looking for someone to take the blame.
After the noise subsided, Inked Guy, with a scowl on his face, turned to Adelaide. "You can come down now, can't you?"
Adelaide's expression was twisted with excitement as she climbed down from the window, using the wall for support.
She dashed to the door, her face lit with glee as she listened to the commotion inside.
Morwenna, with her good looks and figure, was a rare sight for these thugs who rarely saw a decent woman. There was no way
they could resist someone like her, scantily clad.
Adelaide listened at the door for a while, savoring the moment. Once she was satisfied, she reached for the door handle, eager
to see Morwenna's pitiful, terrified state for herself. She wanted to witness Morwenna's fall into despair, just like she had.
But the door was locked from the inside.
She snorted, not bothering to intervene. She had no intention of rescuing Morwenna.
Seeing Adelaide's erratic behavior, the thugs left her alone. Even Inked Guy refrained from bothering Morwenna further.
All they wanted now was for Phineas to arrive, hand over Morwenna, and collect their payment.
Phineas, upon receiving the news, was already on his way, rushing over with his
crew.
But Greta and Brian got there even faster. Since the area had been cordoned off, and this old neighborhood was not far from
where Morwenna had disappeared, they were close by when they received a tip.
They arrived at the old apartment complex, eyeing the building from a distance.
Brian was ready to charge in.
Greta held him back, saying, "Don't rush in blindly. Do you even know what's inside? I'll go knock and
we have this whole block
surrounded. Not even a fly leaves without our say-so!"
Brian hesitated. "Greta, it's too dangerous for you. Let me go in."
Greta shot him a look. "You? All you'd do is alert them. Can you check Morwenna's condition? You're not a doctor."
Brian fell silent. He wasn't a doctor and knew he couldn't help much inside.
If they stormed in, the thugs might use Morwenna as a hostage.
Still, Greta's decision to go in
puzzled him, so he asked, "Greta, I
thought you barely knew Morwenna. You've always admired Stuart. We all thought you'd end up together. Why are you risking so
much for her?"
Brian's confusion was understandable. Greta was putting in a lot of effort and even risking herself for Morwenna, which seemed
out of character.
Greta tossed her hair back, a confident smile on her face. "I find it intriguing. Don't you think this kind of adventure is exciting?
Plus, I really do like Morwenna."
After spending some time with Morwenna, Greta could even understand why Stuart was drawn to her. It was no wonder that in
those TV dramas, the brooding CEO always falls for the sweet, innocent girl.
In their world of constant scheming, being around someone so genuine and pure was a breath of fresh air.
Who wouldn't be charmed by her soft and endearing nature?
Brian was taken aback, his mouth agape in surprise. "Greta, you actually like Morwenna?"
