Chapter 517
Chapter 517
"Mr. Morris! The construction accident on the north site-someone fell to their death. The family's gone public, and now the
authorities have shut down all work!"
"Mr. Morris! The Revenue Office says we're under investigation for tax evasion. They want your full cooperation!"
"Mr. Morris-"
By noon, Daly Morris looked like he'd aged a decade.
He'd spent over thirty years in the business world; he knew this wasn't some random misfortune. Someone was deliberately
targeting the Morris Group. There was no way all these crises would hit at once by sheer coincidence.
What now?
Suddenly, Daly thought of Mr. Christensen.
Yes-Mr. Christensen!
The last time the Morris family faced a financial crisis, it was Mr. Christensen who convinced Daniel to step in and save them.
Mr. Christensen was utterly taken with Rebecca. There's no way he'd just stand by and watch the Morris Group go under.
The thought was like a weight lifted off Daly's chest. He rushed home to the Morris estate.
Sandra was in the middle of a card game with a few socialite wives in the sitting room. She looked up, surprised to see Daly
home so early. "Daly, what are you doing back at this hour?"
Daly didn't answer her. Instead, he asked, "Where's Rebecca?"
"She's upstairs, reading," Sandra replied, tossing out a card.
Sandra groaned. "How do you keep winning? My luck is awful today!"
Daly didn't linger. He headed upstairs.
Rebecca was in her room, book in hand. Or at least, she looked like she was reading; in truth, she was desperately calling out to
the system in her mind— pleading for it to return.
No response. No matter how many times she tried, the system remained silent. Just then, a knock sounded at the door.
Rebecca's thoughts scattered. She set down her book, opened the door, and blinked in surprise. "Dad? What are you doing
home?"
Daly's face was grim. "Rebecca, something's happened. Let's talk in the study."
"Alright." Rebecca nodded and followed him.
Once inside, Daly explained the Morris Group's predicament.
Rebecca's face went pale. "How did it all go so wrong?"
Daly's brow was furrowed. "I think someone's out to get us."
Out to get the Morris Group?
Rebecca narrowed her eyes. Who could it be?
Alex? In her previous life, Alex had single-handedly destroyed the Morris Group. But this time, she
Vel
hadn't crossed paths with him. Still, who else could it be? Anthea?
A chill rippled down her spine. Could Anthea have already discovered what
happened last night? But how could she know?
in touch with Mr. Robinson right away. Ask him to help us through this."
No matter what, the Morris Group couldn't be allowed to fall. During the last financial crisis, Daly had made plenty of enemies,
emboldened by Daniel's support. He couldn't let those people see him fait not now.

Rebecca looked up. "Dad, don't worry. I'll go find Daniel myself. Trust me, he won't just sit back and do nothing. She could tell
from Daniel's eyes he was completely taken with her. The only reason he hadn't confessed was out of respect for
Mr. Christensen.
If she just happened to mention the Morris Group's troubles, Daniel would surely
step in. He couldn't stand to see her suffer.
Daly finally relaxed. "I'll wait for your good news at the office."
Rebecca nodded.
She returned to her room, changed into fresh clothes, applied a bit of makeup, and headed out.
It wasn't until she was behind the wheel that she realized something crucial: the system was gone.
Without its help, running into Daniel by chance was going to be a lot harder. Cloudcrest was a big city.
What now?
Rebecca sat in the driver's seat, brow furrowed with worry. Time was running out.
In the end, she decided to try her luck at the orphanage.
She set off, unaware that a black sedan had quietly tailed her from the estate, keeping a careful distance.
When Rebecca arrived at the orphanage, she learned that Daniel had just left.
Undeterred, she drove to the other places where she'd often “accidentally" run into him.
But by nightfall, there was still no sign of Daniel.
"System! Where the hell did you go?" Rebecca clenched her fists, pounding them against the steering wheel, her face pale with
frustration.
