Ella was feeling very hungry. She tried to avoid seeing Lorenzo, experially during meal times. If she went down in eat when she
wasn’t that hungry, she couldn’t eat much. But if she waited too long, she’d be starving
She had often gone downstairs when Lorenzo was out. But now, hit car was still parked outside. Ton’t he busy anymore? the
thought. She considered going down, but feared running into him.
Just as she hesitated, there was a knock on the door. Then Bernard’s loud voice called from the doorway. “Ella, Lorenzo wants
you in the study.”
Do I really need to be yelled at? I’m not deaf: Ells frowned, too irritated to even reply.
But Bernard didn’t realize how annoyed she felt and kept shouting. “Ella? Mrs. Moretti?” When Ella didn’t respond, he switched
to “Mrs. Moretti.”
That address really got on Ella’s nerves. She flung the door open and slapped Bernard right across the face.

Bernard was in complete shock.
As Ella’s hand connected with his face, she snarled, “What’s wrong with you? Keep talking and I’ll rip your mouth off

Ella removed her hand and glared fiercely at Bernard, leaving him utterly confused.
She had been too timid in front of Lorenzo, crying whenever she made a mistake. But now, she even acted out of anger. Bernard
could help but wonder just how much pressure had Lorenzo put on her–she seemed to be on the edge.
Bernard didn’t get mad at Ella for her outburst. Instead, he looked at her with sympathy. He cleared his throat and said, “Lorenzo
wants to see you in his study.”
“What for?” Ella huffed, annoyed. She was trying her best to avoid meeting Lorenzo.
Listening to Stephani’s doubts over the phone and hearing how Lorenzo’s people referred to her made her anxious. They might
actually believe that all her previous antics with Lorenzo were out of genuine affection–attempts to attract him.

The main problem was that after everything that had happened, no one would believe her even if she tried to explain or deny it.
“Just so you know, I’m not into playing nurse or serving coffee,” Ella said dismissively. She thought doing those things only led to

trouble, so she decided to be completely “useless.”
“No, don’t worry about any of that. You just need to know how to play cute,” Bernard replied.
Ella was taken aback. ‘What the hell?‘
Bernard realized he had let it slip and quickly explained, “Oh no, that’s not what I meant.”
‘Play cute in front of Lorenzo? Seriously?‘ Ella was at a loss for words. Not wanting to deal with Bernard anymore, she went
straight to the study. Since Lorenzo wanted to meet her, she felt she couldn’t just refuse.
On the way there, Ella asked Bernard, “Who’s looking into whether I’m an undercover agent?”
“Me,” Bernard replied.
“You?” Ella glanced at him, feeling bad. She had met the significant people around Lorenzo, and in her opinion, Bernard was
probably the most unreliable of them all.
