Chapter 256

Chapter 256
Today, very few would dare to kidnap Quinlyn, but Jason just happened to be one of them.
He changed his clothes and loitered at a bank, successfully swindling an old man out of a hundred grand in cash before
swaggering off.
As he drove away, he casually waved at the man. “Don’t worry, I’ve got this handled.”
“Okay, thank you so much!” The old man bowed gratefully, completely unaware of what was happening.
Taking a corner, he picked a small eatery and led Quinlyn to a table outside,
“Aren’t you scared?” Quinlyn glanced at the distance between them, thinking it would be easy to get caught.
But Jason waved it off and stuffed a dumpling in his mouth, grinning. “You don’t get it. This is what makes it exciting, and they
still have things to sort out.”

Quinlyn joined in, feeling hungry after a bland airplane meal. Halfway through, she noticed a commotion at the bank.
The old man was arguing with a guy, refusing to let him leave, while someone nearby borrowed the shopkeeper’s phone to call
the cops, trying to be a good citizen.
Quinlyn finally understood; the target was older folks rushing to handle urgent tasks, easy to deceive.
Then, the scammer jumped in, pretending to be a distressed relative of the old man, and the money changed hands.
While they were eating, the old man, anxious for an update, called him out. The scammer showed up in a panic, clearly
frustrated.
“See? I told you I could help him.” Jason smirked, clearly enjoying the unfolding drama.
The police were just a couple of streets over, and a bowl of noodles later, they had the whole story.
The shopkeeper had gossip to share, saying, “Oh, it’s a phone scam. They pretended to be the old man’s grandkids in an
accident, needing money to send, but the kids were just fine in school.”

Amid the rants, Jason remained unfazed, nodding along. “Exactly.”
His thick skin was evident.

After finishing the meal, he paid and left with Quinlyn. Meanwhile, the scammer slumped to the ground, wailing, “I swear I had no
accomplice. I didn’t take his money! If I did, I’d be struck by lightning!”
Jason, laughing and driving, clearly had intended to fool the scammer instead.
Quinlyn turned to him. “Aren’t you going to give the money back?” ‘If it isn’t for profit, what’s the point?‘ she wondered.
“Oh, it’s fine! The scam money is enough to pay the old man back.”
Jason waved his hand dismissively.“Scams like this happen all the time. If it weren’t me, he’d lose his money anyway. They’ll just
try a different trick next time.”
Quinlyn frowned. “Don’t their families teach them anything?”
“Who has the time? People are working from nine to five. Young folks are dying at their jobs. Old folks can’t find time to visit them
in the hospital. It’s a societal issue without any conscience in crime,” Jason replied. He wanted to smoke and pulled over to grab
some.

Just then, Quinlyn’s modified watch lit up, This modified watch actually has more powerful functions than a mobile phone.
Just when Quinlyn opened the watched, it revealed a call coming through from Xiomar. “Holy cow, Quinlyn, are you okay? That
idiot actually kidnapped you! We’re just 0.3 miles behind. Should we take action?”
Thinking for a moment, Quinlyn shook her head. “Not yet.”

“Got it! Just call if you need anything, Xiomar replied confidently.
‘Of course, if a criminal was involved, her safety couldn’t be compromised, he thought.
Soon, Jason returned with a pack of cigarettes and two bottles of water. He shut the door and turned curiously. “You had a
chance to run earlier. Why didn’t you?“In the bustling downtown, even if she ran, he wouldn’t shoot.
Quinlyn shook her head, staying silent.
He chuckled, lighting a cigarette. “So, you snuck out to prison, huh? Did your dad or mom get caught? You’re afraid of getting
yelled at because you’ll miss them?”

Quinlyn kept her head down, still not replying.
“Oh, I see, stubborn. But you’re pretty clever. You’re not panicking. I’m just wandering around. Why not join me?”
Quinlyn lifted her head slightly. “You don’t know where you’re going?”
“I’m on my own at home, so I just want enough to eat. My dream is to make money and travel the world. But right now, I’ll travel
around the country, Jason explained.
Looking at the plastic bag at her feet, similar to the one she brought when she arrived in the city with 30 thousand dollars, she
replied, “But that’s not enough. I realized things are pricey here.”
“Heh, you know that too! No worries. We can always find a way to make some cash. It’s the easiest thing to do.” He chuckled.
Quinlyn trusted him. Xiomar had sent her information about Jason Farrell.
Jason, 33, graduated middle school but worked odd jobs around until he turned to sales to look sharp. In a year, he became a
sales clerk.
Later, he wanted a comfy office job, so he faked his resume. With smooth talking, he landed a gig at a top 500 company.
During his time there, he self–studied skills, climbed the ladder to manager. However, he embezzled over 6 million dollars and
fled when the boss planned to promote him.

After two carefree years, he was caught and sent to prison, where he made many friends, lived comfortably, and earned three
invention patents for reduced sentencing.
After a year, he was released but quickly found work at a foreign company. He charmed his boss and started dating the company
accountant, Daisy.
Both held the keys to the financial records, and in two years, he secretly stole 30 million dollars from payroll accounts.
When he attempted to escape, he hesitated to leave Daisy behind. Instead, he faced betrayal and went back to prison. This time,
he studied harder and now has only three years left on his sentence.
The managers from the companies he scammed even offered to rehire him after his release.
Daisy stood by him, wanting him to repent and marry her when he got out.
His story wasn’t the wildest in Chaniloria Prison, but Quinlyn hadn’t pegged him initially. Now she realized, he likely broke
