Chapter 848
Chapter 0848
Dylan's health had been deteriorating over the past few days.
Sometimes, even speaking became a struggle.
He didn't dare tell Suzy.
She was already overwhelmed with everything going on, and he didn't want to add to her burden.
Suzy noticed his silence after he called her name.
He said nothing more, but the tension on his face didn't escape her.
She stepped forward, opened her arms, and hugged him tightly.
"Dylan, I'm really fine. You don't need to worry about me. What you need to do right now is focus on getting better so that when
we go back, we can surprise Grandma and Diana."
At the mention of Diana, Suzy's expression softened.
The guards who were watching over them mentioned that Diana and Elliot grew quite close lately-like a pair of love-struck
teenagers, inseparable and happy.
Hearing that news had been a rare comfort for Suzy.
She genuinely wished the best for Elliot, but even more so for Diana.
Dylan, however, felt an ache deep in his chest as Suzy spoke.
He knew his condition.
There was no recovery in sight.
His body was breaking down, and unless a miracle happened, this decline was irreversible.
And miracles...
If even Suzy, with all her abilities, couldn't fix this, then the odds of a miracle were close to zero.
His silence didn't go unnoticed.
Suzy reached up and gently smoothed the crease between his brows.
"You already look terrible these days," she teased softly.
"Why keep frowning? Are you trying to make yourself even uglier?"
She tilted her head with a playful smile.
"You know, I'm all about looks. The only reason I let you detox me back then was because you were good-looking.
"If I'd come across some ugly guy, I'd rather have dropped dead than let him help
me."
Her grin widened. "So, you'd better make sure you stay handsome, or I might just leave you behind."
Dylan knew Suzy was trying to cheer him up. But...
"The investigation led back to Evangeline, didn't it?"
His voice was low, just loud enough for the two of them to hear.
After all, this place wasn't entirely safe.
Suzy let out a sigh. "The person behind all this has been deliberately leadin g me in circles to keep m
from finding the truth.
"Every time I suspected someone, Helena or Evangeline, they ended up getting hurt. But Serena didn't."
Her brows furrowed. "That's when I realized the person behind it probably wanted me to get rid of Serena.
"So, I used her as bait. I made it look like I
som, and sure e

how I'd deal with her. belongs to
Her jaw tightened. "I was prepared. As soon as they believed Serena was dead, they rushed to report the
the news' to their master. And
that's how I tracked them to..."
She stopped.
But Dylan already understood.
The person behind it all was Evangeline.
"If you want to know the truth," Dylan said after a pause, "I can test her for you."
Suzy frowned. "What are you planning?"
Dylan gave a mysterious smile. "That's a secret for now."
