Chapter 843
Chapter 0843
Seeing how firmly Suzy insisted that Serena was the culprit, Simon didn't argue further.
He let out a long sigh. "Maybe you're right. Like you said, the evidence does point to her."
"I'll find a way to make her confess," Suzy said with quiet determination.
As they spoke, a loud crash came from Evangeline's room.
"Her state of mind has been getting worse," Simon said, his voice filled with worry.
"Suzy, please go in and talk to her. She can't see me right now-every time she does, she gets more agitated and keeps saying
she's sorry."
He ran a hand over his face.
"I think she feels guilty about losing the baby, like she's somehow let me down. But that's not true. It wasn't her fault. I wish she'd
understand that."
Suzy reached out to squeeze her brother's arm. "Don't worry. I'll go talk to her. And if it doesn't work... I can always use hypnosis
to help her temporarily forget the trauma."
"Yes... just do whatever you think will help. We're still young. We can always have more kids."
Suzy opened her mouth to say something but stopped herself.
He didn't know. He didn't know that Evangeline would never be able to have another child again.
They were already drowning in enough grief.
She wanted to let them find their footing first before breaking the news after they became mentally stronger.
Another crash echoed from inside the room.
"Go, quickly!" Simon urged, his worry deepening.
Suzy hurried in.
The moment she stepped inside, Evangeline turned her back toward the door.
"I told you to get out! I don't want to see you!" Her voice was hoarse with tears.
"Evangeline, it's me," Suzy said softly.
"It's not Simon. He didn't come in."
Evangeline froze for a moment, then slowly turned to face Suzy, her cheeks streaked with tears.
"Suzy... I didn't mean to act like this. But every time I see him, I feel so guilty. I... I couldn't protect our baby.
"I told him I needed to be alone, but he just keeps staying by my side. And the more he does, the more unbearable the guilt
feels."
"I know," Suzy said gently, hurrying to her side and taking her hand.
She guided Evangeline to sit down on the edge of the bed. "You've been through so much, and your body is still so weak. You
can't let yourself get so worked up." fo
She squeezed Evangeline's hand. "Come on, follow my lead. Breathe with me."
with remorse.
"I'm sorry for worrying you."
"Evangeline, we're family. You don't have to apologize to me," Suzy said gently, helping her lie back down and pulling the blanket
over her.
"I know losing the baby has been unbearable, but it's already happened. All we can do now is try to accept it."
She sat beside her and held her hand tightly.
"And, you know, my brother's
worried sick about you. He's been
pacing outside, desperate to help
but afraid to come in. That's why he
called me."
Suzy's voice softened further. "But, honestly, none of this is your fault. If anything, it's mine."
Evangeline's brows furrowed. "What? Suzy, no—"
"It is," Suzy insisted.
"If I'd reacted faster, maybe I could've stopped it from happening. So, if you need
to let out your anger, go ahead.
"Yell at me, hit me if it helps. Just... don't blame yourself. Please."
"No, no!" Evangeline shook her head, tears slipping down her cheeks again.
"This isn't your fault. I chose to
too.
protect you. You're Simon's sister, and that makes you my sister. How could I stand by and do nothing when you were in
danger?"
