Chapter 4
Chapter 4
"You never believed we lost our child, did you? So, I put our baby in this little bottle as a gift for you. What do you think? Do you like it?"
The small bottle seemed like a hot iron in his hands. Patrick looked at it for barely a second
before flinching, and tossing it aside in
terror.
"No... No, it can't be! That's impossible!" He backed away several steps, trembling, disbelief etched across his face.
"How could you be pregnant? The doctors said your chances of conceiving were so low."
At his words, Sarah's voice
shot up, the tears she had been holding back streaming freely down her face.
"A low chance of getting pregnant, not none at all! Patrick, do you even know how much it hurt when my stomach hit the rocks?
Do you understand the pain of losing our baby? Do you know how devastated I was when you didn't believe me? Do you realize how much faith I lost in you?"
With every word she spoke, the light in Patrick's eyes dimmed further until there was nothing left but the same hollow apology I had already heard from Megan.
"I'm so sorry..."
How pathetic. Do they really think 'sorry' is enough?
I struggled to sit up in bed, my voice barely a whisper but sharp as a blade.
"Enough. We don't want your apologies. Like I said before-
let's get a divorce. Since you two brothers are so eager to prioritize
Megan, you can carry on with that."
Right on cue, Megan spoke up, her soft, sweet voice laced with the perfect amount of sorrow.
"Please, don't get a divorce. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have gone with you. But I had no idea that my brothers would risk everything to save me. I'm so sorry."
I cast her a cold glance, offering no response.
Even at that moment, Matthew still defended her.
"I admit, I was wrong about the baby. I should've paid more attention to you. But Megan is innocent in all of this. She was the first to fall into
the river, so we went to save her. Besides, there was a professional rescue team there, and I trusted them."

I could not bear to stay connected to him for another second. The thought of him disgusted me.
Matthew hesitantly agreed to the divorce, but he had a condition. To sweeten the deal, he even offered me a million dollars.

"There's just one thing I need you to do," he said. "It's about that online incident. People are accusing Megan of being a homewrecker and for destroying our marriage, calling her a third wheel. It's affecting her life.
"So?" I asked, unmoved.
"Could you clear the air
online? Just let everyone know that Megan is my sister and that she didn't come between us. You've
always been kind-I'm sure you can do that."
His words made me sick. I stared at him with cold disdain, disgusted by the memory of how I had once pursued him so desperately.
"I refuse," said, my voice sharp.
"Doesn't she act just like a third

"I'm not!" Megan cried, tears welling up once again. "I've been with my brothers since childhood. Why should I become a
stranger to them just because you and Sarah came into their lives?"
Matthew immediately rushed to her side to comfort her. Patrick followed suit, trying to soothe her as well.
"We know you didn't do anything
wrong, Megs. It's alright," Patrick murmured. "It's the two of them who are mistreating you"
"Get out! You make me sick!" Sarah suddenly screamed. She grabbed an apple from her side table and hurled it at Patrick
It hit him squarely in the face.
