Chapter 18
Hot and Drunk
I hadn’t been sitting on the couch for long when my head started to spin. Lowering the wine glass, which I was surprised to find still in my hand, I cradled my head. I’m not the type of person with a high alcohol tolerance, and yet I’m neither the type to get drunk a
Suddenly, my body felt warm. I was still wearing my vest, so I decided to take it off inhaling sharply, I allowed the icy blast from the air–
conditioning unit to ease the warmth inside me, only to be disappointed when it didn’t.
What the heck is happening to my body? I murmured, rubbing my neck, which felt warmer than normal.
Grabbing the remote I found under the second layer of the glass table, I tuned the air conditioning unit to the coldest temperature it could go, then waited for my body to cool down. I waited and waited. The room turned into a
mini freezer, but unfortunately, my body temperature stayed as warm as hell.
Still under the strain of discomfort, my fingers worked to unbutton my collar. I had intended to unbutton just my collar so the cold air could graze the skin on my neck, but I ended up unbuttoning more buttons until the top of my bra peeked through the crevice of m
With my eyes closed, my head fell back on the couch while I resisted the urge to strip off my clothes and lie naked where I sat. Still expecting my body heat to cool down after a moment of rest, I waited and
waited, but eventually, my efforts were wasted. The longer I sat there, the more heated my body became.
“I shouldn’t have drunk that damn wine!” I grumbled, then opened my eyes. Pushing my body forward using both hands for support, I got to my feet. The sudden exertion plunged me into another wave of dizziness. Clutching the sofa for support, I waited for the d
A cold bath. Yes, that’s what I needed now! I thought to myself.
The promise of cold water against
my burning skin lifted my spirits. With renewed strength, I managed to walk toward the door without stumbling or falling to my knees.
To my surprise, I remained clear–
headed, even though my concentration was slowly slipping away. As I walked through the quiet hallway, it felt as though my feet were
barely touching the floor. In fact, I felt as if I were floating in the air.
I reached my room and turned the knob. It was unlocked, so I slipped inside unnoticed.
The icy blast from the air conditioning unit caressed my face. It was cooler inside my room than it had been in Grey’s office -
perhaps because my bedroom was only half the size of his office.
Heaving a sigh of relief, I unbuttoned my uniform, slid the sleeves off my arms, and let them drop to
the floor. Then my pencil black skirt and undergarments followed. Naked as a baby, I quietly went to the bathroom and closed the door behind me without making the faintest
sound.
The faint moonlight cast silvery shadows inside the bathroom. I didn’t turn the light switch on; I wasn’t in the mood to, and besides, the moonlight looked quite wonderful tonight. Reaching for the faucet, I turned it on. While waiting for the tub to fill, I reached for m
Removing the ribbon that secured my hair in a ponytail, my extremely long hair cascaded down my back like a waterfall. My hand extended to the sink, fumbling for the brush I knew was neatly arranged among my toiletries.
After a brief moment of struggle, I found what I was looking for. With the brush in hand, I smoothed my
long hair into submission, then coiled it at the top of my head in a bun.
The water filled the tub, and before it could spill onto the floor, I turned off the faucet.
My fingers dipped into the tub, testing the coldness of the water against my palms. The cold liquid embraced my skin. I shut my eyes firmly in response as it eased the tension and burning sensation in my body.
I couldn’t take it anymore, I thought to myself with an inward groan as I climbed into the tub. The spark of excitement made me want to jump inside, but I managed to resist the urge and slowly submerged my body into the cold, inviting
water. A blissful sigh escaped my lips, and my body gradually relaxed.
Heaven! I mumbled under my breath, draping my arms over the sides of the tub and closing my eyes.
Under normal circumstances, my body wouldn’t tolerate a soak in the tub, especially not when the water was freezing cold -
so cold that even the hair on the top of my head would stand on end. But now, instead of lying there stiff as a pole and trembling from head to toe, I found myself enjoying it.
For five
long minutes, I didn’t move. I just lay there quietly, waiting for the burning sensation in my body to subside. With my eyes still closed, my mind relived the scene I stumbled upon in Grey’s office. One question still bothered me: ‘Did my husband sleep with Natalia?
to believe it. I couldn’t just accept it.
Pain kicked my chest hard. With my fists turned into balls at my sides, I tried to keep the tears at bay, but stubborn as I was, the tears tumbled freely down my wet
cheekbones.
My spine curled as I hugged my knees close to my chest and rested my chin
on them. The thought of Natalia and Grey actually doing it on the same couch where I had just sat made me go ballistic. It was so unfair... so wrong for them to do it inside the privacy of his office where we once made love.
