Chapter 27
Chapter 27 Is Zack Really His Father
Upon hearing that, Benjamin wanted to cry.
Daryl also felt sorry for the boy. She frowned helplessly and said, "Bennie is still a kid. If he exhausts himself too much, it's bad
for his health!"
"That's none of your concern," Zack said calmly. "We have a family doctor who will monitor his physical condition regularly."
Benjamin was silent.
He realized that it was a mistake to recklessly provoke his father just because he had a mother to back him up. Right there and
then, he regretted his silly action, but he could not afford to be a coward in front of Daryl. "Mommy, don't worry. I can handle it!"
exclaimed Benjamin as he tried to comfort her.
"Alas!"
Daryl sighed.
How could a sweet and smart boy end up in the hands of such a cruel and ruthless father? Was he even Bennie's biological
father? Daryl could not help but doubt that.
An hour later, the family doctor arrived.
He was a foreigner. He had gorgeous blond hair and mesmerizing cerulean eyes! He looked young, tanned and sharp-featured.
He might be from America or Europe. "Ronan, check her harm. It is scalded," said Zack in a cold voice. Ronan walked toward
Daryl. He was as tall as Zack when they stood side by side. He squatted down in front of her with a smile.
"My name is Ronan. It's a pleasure to meet you,"
said the doctor in a calm and solace voice. His demeanor was full of courtesy like a nobleman of royalty. "I'm a doctor from
Holland."
"Hello, Ronan. It's nice to meet you," said Daryl with a beam.
"You talk too much. Isn't the scald painful enough to keep you quiet?"
asked Zack in a numbing tone.
Daryl pulled a long face to his attitude. She just politely greeted the doctor. How was she being talkative?
What a nuisance Zack was!
"Mommy, I think Daddy is jealous,"
Daryl helplessly reached out to stroke his head. "No, Bennie. You're thinking too much."
"Mommy, if you don't believe me, then see for yourself!"
Benjamin spent years with his father. He was confident that he knew everything about him!
When Ronan pulled the gauze off her arm gently, Daryl twitched in pain. She managed to tolerate the pain, and did not make a
sound. She just furrowed her eyebrows. Noticing her frown, Zack pursed his lips and said in a deep voice, "Ronan, try to be a bit
gentler, will you?"
"Yes, sir!"
Ronan did not blink at all as he focused on tearing the rest of the gauze off Daryl. When the gauze dressing was removed, Daryl
heaved a huge sigh of relief.
The news broadcast on the television caught her attention.
"The Lu Group is treading on thin ice right now. Their shares continued to depreciate on the stock markets, but things seem to
get better..."
"Since the scandal that she bought the Best Actress Award was exposed, Candida had finally shown in public for the first time
yesterday. She appeared in the airport. Witnesses said that she wanted to go abroad. But unfortunately, she never made it to her
flight. According to the analysis of the insiders..."
Daryl was focused on the TV that she didn't realize that Ronan was applying ointment on her scald.
Zack turned away from the television screen and glanced at Daryl. Seeing that she was distracted, he pulled a long face. It
seemed that she hadn't moved on yet.
"Mr. Ji, the scald has been treated,"
Ronan said and stood up. "Make sure that the scald will stay dry. And apply this ointment before you go to bed every day."
Ronan's words pulled Daryl back to her senses. She smiled and said, "Will do. Thank you very much." Zack had no intention of
keeping Ronan in the household any longer. Right after the procedure was conducted, he instructed the driver to send him back.
"Mommy, why don't you take a few days off?"
Benjamin suggested. "Remember to keep your scald dry."
"It's not that big of a deal, honey."
Daryl smiled with gratitude. "My next scenes are nowhere near water anyway. I'll be just fine."
"Daddy!"
her scald dry!"
Zack had a straight face, and he was not bothered at all by the boy's words. "Since she doesn't want to rest, let her work as long
as she wants. If something happens to her, it has nothing to do with me."
"Daddy, you are so heartless!" exclaimed Benjamin.
"Watch your mouth! One more word and your dinner go straight to the bin!" said Zack in a threat.
Once again, Benjamin was silenced.
With the exchange of words between them, Daryl could not help but wonder if Benjamin was Zack's biological son. If that was
not the case, then how could he punish his child like this?
She reached out her unwounded arm and pulled Benjamin under her wing. "Hush now, Bennie. Mommy is fine, okay?"
"Okay, Mommy," replied Benjamin, but he was far from giving up. "But make sure to call me if anything happens to you, okay?"
"How's that going to help?" Zack sneered.
"If she calls me, I will tell you so that you can save her and beat the bad guys right away!
Mommy, you may not have known it, but Daddy is the most powerful man in the world!" said Benjamin with conviction.
Daryl was amused, and nodded. "Okay, Bennie. I'll call you right away. Thank you, sweetie."
When Zack heard his son's praises, he could not help but be flattered. Benjamin hadn't said something like that since he was
three years old. When Zack heard it again, his spirits were uplifted to the heavens. As dawn crept at the pastel skies, it was time
to feast for dinner.
After tucking his bum in his seat, Benjamin gazed at Daryl and Zack across the table; his mischievous eyes sparked a brilliant
idea.
"Daddy, I think you should feed Mommy. Her arm is injured," said Benjamin.
When the boy finished his words, Daryl sensed the temperature in the dining room pummeled to a wintry extent in an instant!
This only meant one thing he was getting riled up!
Daryl hurriedly said, "Thank you, Bennie, but I can eat on my own."
However, after she said that, the room seemed to have become colder.
But you shouldn't. Benjamin's spunky face was filled with conviction. "You are injured, and you need to rest!"
Before Daryl could reply, Zack picked up the bowl and chopsticks in front of her.
"I..."
Daryl was about to refuse the gesture, but she saw the piercing look in Zack's eyes. Danger loomed behind that gaze as Zack
said, "You what?"
It was obvious that he was on the verge of flaring up.
"I really appreciate your care,"
said Daryl. She swallowed the rest of her stalled words and cleverly turned them into a sentence of gratitude.
