Chapter 638
His body froze in place as she swiftly approached him.
“When did you get here?” She asked, glancing up at him.
His face remained expressionless. His gaze shifted to somewhere else. “Yesterday,” he murmured.
“Why are you here?” Her voice rose, “Did you come alone?” She didn’t understand why she was intercepting him, or why she was probing with these
questions.
They had just had an argument, and neither of them backed down. They were supposed to be strangers now. However, she couldn’t shake off the
nagging thought. What if he was here for her?
“I have a lecture at the school.” His Adam’s apple bobbed as he spoke. His gaze involuntarily landed on her. “I spent a year of high school here. The
lecture’s this afternoon. Would you like to come?”
“I am spending the day with Ian. I’m sorry,” she said. Her gaze shifted towards Ian.
The smile had long since faded from Ian’s face, replaced by a cold stare in their direction. A bodyguard stood next to Ian, holding the robot toy, also
looking in their direction.
Feeling awkward, Violette took a deep breath. “It’s just a coincidence, running into you like this.” She paused. “Well, I should go.”
As she turned to leave, he grabbed her arm. “Let’s have dinner tonight,” he added quickly. Fearing her rejection, he continued, “I’m leaving here
tomorrow.”
“Ian probably won’t want to have dinner with you. So...”
“I know you can convince him. He listens to you,” he said, stepping closer. His dark eyes were fixed on her. “Violette, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have
doubted you. I didn’t mean to, but I hurt you.”
Her cheeks flushed instantly, and her body temperature was rising rapidly, leaving her heart in a frenzy.
She hadn’t expected him to apologize. Was he here for the lecture, or to apologize to her? He didn’t like crowds. If he wasn’t here for her, was he
here for self-punishment?
“So, the raffle... the robot... that was all your doing.” She knew it. Luck was never that easy.
“Don’t tell the kid.” His voice was tinged with resignation. “I just wanted to make you guys happy.”
“I understand.” She lowered her gaze, unable to meet his eyes any longer. He had made his apology, and his attitude was sincere. Despite her hurt
feelings, she had no desire to lose her temper at him.
“I’ve booked a private room at a restaurant near your house. Let’s have dinner together tonight, okay?” he asked again.
She was softening, but didn’t want to agree too easily. “I’ll think about it.” After saying that, she walked back towards Ian.
Elijah watched until she was safely back with the bodyguard and Ian. Then he turned and left.
Violette saw the furrow in her son’s brow and tried to cheer him up. “Sweetie, this robot is so cool!”
“Mom, why is he here?” Ian asked.
“He came to apologize to me.” Violette didn’t want to hide anything from her son. “He wants to have dinner with us tonight.”
“I knew he was up to no good.”
“If you’re not comfortable with it, we don’t have to have dinner with him tonight,” Violette said with a smile, not wanting to affect Ian’s mood.
Ian looked up at her. She was an open book to him.
That evening.
Violette, accompanied by Ian, arrived at the restaurant that Elijah had booked. It was Ian who decided to come, because he knew she wanted to.
