Chapter 1301
Chapter 1301:
Realizing she was about to say something she shouldn't, Florrie abruptly stopped talking.
Kallie pressed.
"Wouldn't have what? Why are you silent now? Did Dr. Watson orchestrate all this?"
Florrie nearly lost her cool.
"Stop spouting nonsense! How could Calvert and I have predicted what the spiritual advisor would say?"
"Why not?" Kallie said softly.
"You could have easily deduced that Florrie bribed the spiritual advisor to tell Mrs. White about the plan. It was clear that Calvert preferred...
"You!" Florrie seethed. Her anger nearly made her dizzy as she clenched her teeth and raised her hand. But ultimately, she didn't hit Kallie. Too many eyes were watching.
Florrie could only grit her teeth and say, “Kallie, you'll face despair someday!"
Kallie smiled tauntingly.
"For now, I'm pleased, and that's enough." Feeling that another word with Kallie would push her over the edge, Florrie took a deep breath, let go of the
wheelchair, and stormed away.
The servants shared looks of astonishment after the outburst they had just witnessed. Kallie's words aroused their suspicions. If securing a newborn as the vessel for Gracelyn's grandchild's spirit was the goal, why choose Calvert as the father? Gracelyn had the option to select a more suitable man for the task.
But no one dared to question the real reason. Gossiping in Gracelyn's presence was out of the question. Especially since, despite Gracelyn's current displeasure with Florrie, they shared a notably closer relationship. Speaking out would not only be fruitless but would also provoke Florrie's wrath, which meant losing everything.
With a lazy flick of her hand, Kallie said, "Enough of this drama. Take me back. I'm exhausted."
Immediately, one of the servants stepped up to wheel Kallie away. Back in her room, Kallie dismissed all the servants, claiming she needed rest.
Once alone, Kallie felt a strong urge to hurl objects around in annoyance. If she wasn't worried about someone overhearing, she might have given in to that urge.
Calming herself, Kallie glanced down at her legs. She then carefully locked the door and slowly stood up.
She walked around the room a few times, delighted that she could move freely. However, the burn scars on her legs were still quite visible. They looked gruesome.
But Kallie wasn't bothered. In fact, she flaunted them deliberately. After all, they were evidence of her supposed paralysis. She had to keep the fact that she could move a secret. It was her trump card.
Kallie eased herself back into her wheelchair and sat, gazing out at the moon. She looked deeply lonely and sad. She was trapped here alone, and she was terrified. She was constantly worried. But the thoughts of her children kept her going. It was fine.
Kallie took a deep breath, silently bolstering her resolve. Everything was going to be alright; it had to be.
