Chapter 468
Reese felt as if she were at a carnival, where countless people were having a good time. But considering Lucas' previous cold
and inconsistent attitude, she wasn't going to let him off the hook so easily.
She looked up at Lukas, her eyes glittering with a hint of mischief in them. Keeping a poker face on purpose, she spoke in a low
voice, "Lukas, I really couldn't tell the depth of your feelings for me. Besides, you mentioned earlier that you had asked me not to
turn against you, and..."
Lukas had a headache and closed his eyes for a moment, cutting her off, "Reese, please don't bring up this matter again! If I had
known that I was going to come to like you so much today, I would have preferred to go back in time and smack some sense into
my former self."
It was the first time that Reese had ever heard Lukas express himself in such a way, and it was hard for her not to laugh.
Nevertheless, she made a concerted effort to hide her amusement from him.
If he said that he didn't like something, then he didn't have to like it. If he said that he liked something, then it must be what he
liked.
Today, she was determined to teach him a lesson about that.
With these thoughts in her head, Reese looked at Lukas with a blank expression on her face and remained silent.
Lukas lowered his eyes and seemed to be a little afraid. What he was most afraid of was Reese's indifference. He stared at her
tone, "Reese, now that we've addressed this subject today, I don't want to hide it any longer. The truth of the matter is that I've
been in love with you for quite some time. I have just been pretending to be distant and uncaring towards you, pretending not to
care about you, even pretending not to like you. The reality is that I am possessive, selfish, and incredibly exclusive in my
desires for you. I don't want to share even a fraction of your feelings with anyone else. Not even a small affection from you! To
think that someone desires you makes me want to get even. Do you understand how this makes me feel?"
Lukas clasped Reese's hand a little tighter, and she felt a wave of joy and nervousness wash over her. Her feelings were
indescribable.
There was no doubt that she liked Lukas. What she hadn't expected was that the seemingly reserved Lukas would take the
initiative and confess his feelings to her.
At first, she assumed that their unspoken love and secret affection would continue until their planned marriage ended, after
which they would separate.
Still, the heartfelt confession from Lukas took her completely by surprise.
Reese lifted her eyes to look at Lukas and felt a mixture of agitation, confusion, and thrill. She admitted that she was genuinely
touched by Lukas' gesture, and her initial calm had given way to a surge of emotion.
Lukas gazed intently at Reese, and before she had a chance to respond, he continued to speak.
His voice was heavy and carried a suppressed well of emotion in it. "Reese, I like you. This is the first time in my life that I've
been doing my best to keep them in check because I was afraid that they would scare you away! Of course, I'm more scared that
if you don't reciprocate my feelings, you'll keep your distance from me. The mere thought of it drives me crazy..."
The tone of Lukas's voice was somber and filled with intense affection and vulnerability.
He was afraid that Reese was going to reject him, a fear that Reese could clearly
sense.
Reese was truly moved. She had never expected that someone as aloof and domineering as Lukas could harbor the same kind
of fears and insecurities that she had experienced when she fell in love with him.
She looked at Lukas in astonishment, her eyes locked with his. "Lukas, I..."
Lukas reached out and cupped her cheek. "Don't look at me," he whispered, his fear evident. "I'm afraid I'm going to get nervous
if I meet your eyes."
Reese couldn't help but lift the corners of her lips to a smile. Lukas was not at all like the Lukas she had known under normal
circumstances.
She closed her eyes and gently fluttered her eyelashes in Lukas's hand, and he felt the tingling radiate from his palm to his
heart.
He held Reese's hand and couldn't resist the urge to squeeze it tightly. He asked, "Reese, I like you, so... do you like me?"
Reese's eyes could clearly feel the warmth of Lukas's palm, which seemed to make her eyes welling with emotion. She smiled
and replied softly, "I do."
Lukas' body tensed for a moment, disbelief etched on his face. "Really?"
His voice was one of surprise and elation. He had seen white hyacinths before as
a symbol of a secret love, but to hear Reese's confirmation in person was an entirely different experience.
