Chapter 466
Reese's heart raced with surprise. It was a delightful revelation that Lukas had prepared a candlelight dinner for her.
As she approached the dining table, she couldn't help but be in awe of the elegant table setting in front of her. The French
cuisine, consisting of foie gras, steak, and a tender leg of lamb, looked delicious.
As she looked at the meticulously arranged dishes, Reese remarked, "This looks incredibly appetizing!"
Lukas could not hide his pride and admitted, "I made all of this by myself!"
Reese looked at him shocked and said, "You've cooked all by yourself?"
Upon hearing this, Lukas did not know what to think. His tone was somewhat stiff. "Not just this time!" he said.
Reese remembered a previous misunderstanding when she and Lukas had a quarrel. On that occasion, she and Luther had
gone to a food park to taste the Middle Eastern food, he had cooked for her, but the food had gone cold in her absence.
With a somewhat dry laugh, she did not say a word.
To avoid spoiling the mood, Lukas had even taken the initiative of uncorking the wine beforehand. Then he poured her a glass of
wine with the words, "Have a taste of this wine, it is exquisite!"
she took a sip. The taste of the wine was perfectly in line with her expectations. With a smile on her face, she was full of praise
for Lukas, "You're right, it is an exceptional wine!"
Lukas smiled when he saw her satisfaction. "Let's eat; I'm starving!" said Reese.
Lukas nodded and they began to eat, though his tone turned a bit sour as he asked, "Didn't you have dinner with James earlier
at the West Chamber's Moon? Aren't you already full?"
Reese raised her head in surprise at his knowledge, "You knew I had dinner with James?"
Lukas replied with a look of discomfort on his face, "I overheard some of my colleagues at work discussing it.
Reese felt a bit helpless as she realized that Lukas was upset because he thought that she had lied to him.
It was never her intention to upset Lukas. However, she had the opposite effect.
As she sliced through her steak, she stopped, connecting the dots. Lukas's reaction at the time made a lot of sense. He must
have felt that she was being dishonest.
Reese noticed the undercurrent and said, "Yes, I did have dinner with him. He had something to tell me, but I barely touched my
food and left quickly."
So.
Instead, Lukas played it cool as if it didn't bother me, "You came back, but why did you come back so quickly?"
Reese looked at him with a deep sigh in her voice, "What do you really want to know, Lukas?"
Lukas kept his demeanor casual, "I'm just curious, don't be angry. Eat first if you're hungry."
Reese locked eyes with Lukas and remarked: "Are you really curious, or are you putting on an act? It seems that you're deeply
interested."
Lukas pretended not to care, saying, "I'm just asking.
Reese looked at Lukas, "Lukas, do you know that you're being very deceptive right now?"
Lukas's smile momentarily flashed with a hint of discomfort. After a brief moment of silence, he locked eyes with Reese and
admitted, "This is reserved for the people and things that are truly important to me."
In the dim light of the candles, Lukas's face seemed to be alluring. Reese watched him for a few moments before revealing, "I
returned early because James wanted to tell me about his feelings, but I rejected him. Unfortunately, the end of our conversation
was on a sour note, and we parted ways." she said.
Reese was indeed right. James had already confessed the last time, but today she realized that James still intended to confess
and used other things to trick her into eating with him.
In the end, all she did was to reject James even more clearly.
The words of Reese cast a shadow over the otherwise handsome face of Lukas, and his expression turned dark.
