Chapter 416

Chapter 416
Milly’s words were almost blunt and direct, and Stephanie’s face changed instantly upon hearing them.
Milly understood immediately.
Ha, just as expected, she’s really going to cause trouble.
On the other hand, Stephanie’s act of being an innocent little flower wasn’t convincing enough. Just a few words were enough to
sway her emotions. Clearly, her skills weren’t up to par yet.
But soon, Milly was proven wrong.
Stephanie’s number one supporter appeared out of nowhere, just in time to hear Milly’s sarcastic comment.
Instantly, he was enraged, pointing at her and starting to curse, “Milly, how can you be so heartless? Stephanie was just trying to
help you out of kindness, and you said that about her? Do you even have a heart, or is it made of stone?”
Immediately, Stephanie acted like she had found a protector, her eyes reddening as she looked pitifully at Matthew. In a soft
voice, she said, “Matthew, don’t speak to Milly like that. She meant well. It’s me, it’s my fault for causing trouble.”
Matthew who already feeling protective of her, became even angrier seeing her so upset. “Milly, I order you to apologize to
Stephanie right now!”
Milly remained silent.
Indeed, every self-proclaimed saint always has a brainless follower, and Matthew was playing that role perfectly. His stupidity
was laughable.
Milly was amused by his outburst. ‘Mr. Matthew, I’d really like to know, shouldn’t there be a reason for an apology? Did I hit her or
curse her? I need to know why I’m apologizing.”
“You... ‘Matthew was at a loss for words.
That’s right, Milly hadn’t hit or cursed anyone just now. If she had to apologize, it would be for being unfriendly.

But using unfriendliness as a reason for an apology was weak, because no one in this world was obliged to be kind to anyone

else.
Seeing Matthew and Stephanie at a loss for words made Milly feel great, and the dark cloud over her head lifted instantly. “You
two can think about it all you want. If there’s nothing else, I’m going to chop some wood,” she said, turning to leave.
This was the first time in Matthew’s life that he had been so insulted and humiliated.
His face turned red with rage as he stormed up to block Milly’s path.
Startled by his sudden move, Milly asked, “Anything else?”
Matthew glared at her angrily. “Milly, don’t think I don’t know what’s going on. You’re just jealous of Stephanie. Jealous that she’s
better than you, more driven, prettier! Even if you marry into the Burnetts, you’re just a sparrow that landed in a high place. You’ll
never be a phoenix! Even if you manage to win over everyone in the Burnett family, even Jordan, you’ll never win me over.
Someone as filthy as you belongs in the dark sewers!”
The dark sewers... such a familiar term.
She hadn’t expected to hear this accusation again, even after reincarnating into this novel. It was oddly nostalgic.
In her previous life at the orphanage, she had heard this insult the most. Sometimes, it was said while they pulled her ears,
sometimes while whipping her, and at the very least, it was said when she was locked in a dark room.
It seemed she was always deemed dirty and lowly, but she was human too. Who was truly superior to anyone else?
Milly lowered her gaze, her aura turning cold. Her long eyelashes fluttered, and she seemed to scoff, her tone dripping with
indifference, “Is that so?”
Matthew didn’t notice her change in demeanor. He sneered and continued, ‘Of course. To me, you’re not even worth a strand of
Stephanie’s hair!”
Milly slowly raised her head, her deep eyes like a bottomless pool with ancient ripples that seemed to pull people in.
Matthew had more to say, but when he met her gaze, he involuntarily stepped back half a step and swallowed his words.
That look in her eyes was like she was staring at a dead person.

This time, Milly didn’t say anything. She just looked at him briefly before slowly walking past him.
Still fuming, Matthew reached out to grab her arm to throw more insults at her, but a large hand tightly gripped his own. He

looked up and met a pair of cold, bloodthirsty eyes.
George’s face was stern, emanating a chilling aura. He grasped Matthew’s hand with enough force to break it, “Stay away from
her!”
It was both a warning and a threat.
Just one sentence, but it was ice-cold and devoid of any emotion. Though George’s face was ordinary, it was incredibly
oppressive.
George was truly angry. He had been trying hard to control his rage, thinking that this was Milly’s family matter and not his place
to intervene. But seeing how far they were pushing her, he couldn’t stand it any longer.
Was this really the kind of life Milly had been living since she was found?
The Burnetts acted all loving and respectful to their sister
on the surface, but behind closed doors, they humiliated and insulted her?
If that was the case, George wouldn’t mind teaching the Burnetts a lesson!
Even though Andrew and Philip were comrades, that didn’t obligate him to tolerate this. It was Philip who saved Andrew back
then, not the entire Burnett family.
He would ensure Philip was well taken care of, send him abroad, and provide him with a comfortable life. But he owed nothing to
the Burnetts as a whole.
He would have Danny investigate this matter. If things were really as he suspected...
George’s eyes grew colder, more violent.
The Burnetts could very well face bankruptcy.
Milly sighed softly, tugging at George’s sleeve. “Forget it, let’s go,’ she said quietly.

She admitted she had felt a bit sad just now, but then she remembered that she had no emotional ties to Matthew. Whether he
was nice to her or not didn’t matter.
It was just a pity about her herbal medicine. If she had known, she wouldn’t have saved him!
But at least he had some sense, keeping his voice low enough to not completely embarrass Stephanie. With the cameras being
far away, the livestream likely hadn’t picked up on it.
Just then, the loudspeaker, silent since they arrived on the island, crackled to life with the director’s voice.
“Attention, everyone. We’ve just received a weather alert. A typhoon is approaching. Please head to the yachts immediately.
They are docked at the island’s edge. Please board in an orderly fashion.”
