shirley marmured. “The company has a legal department, a planning department, a finance department, and secretaries,
Contracts are only passed up after they’ve been thoroughly reviewed and confirmed.”
Benjamin let out a cold laugh. “Oh, so you do know a thing or two. But how can you be sure none of those people are corporate
spies planted by rival companies? What if the contract gets swapped out at the last moment before it reaches you? Would you
even notice?”
Shirley was utterly defeated by his critique, unable to retort
Benjamin continued, “With your level of competence, even ten more years of learning wouldn’t prepare you to take over. And
even if you did, Weiss Group would crumble in your hands. Instead of wasting effort on something futile, wouldn’t it be easier to
just focus on pleasing me?
“Easier to please you? Oh, my dear devil, it seems you don’t know yourself well enough,” she thought to herself.
But as she reflected on his words, she realized that while his tone was harsh, he wasn’t entirely wrong
I just about effort. It required talent.
Running a business and managing a large corporation wasn’t j
enough?
To be a successful entrepreneur, sharp market instincts, the ability to seize opportunities, and a forward–thinking vision were
required aside from hard work. That was the talent she lacked
Her father had told her that as the head of a company, every wrong decision could result in massive losses, and may even lead
to the company’s ruin,
It wasn’t that she hadn’t tried, but every task her father had assigned her ended in disappointment. That was the different talent
made.
These days, she invested in a few projects with friends. She rarely got involved and mostly left things to them. But every month
when it was time to review the accounts, her head would spin, and she’d eventually give up altogether
Thankfully, her friends were trustworthy.
After a moment of silence, Shirley finally said, “I’ve been trying to please you all along, but you don’t respond to anything I do.”
Unbeknownst to her, her tone carried a hint of grievance.
Benjamin coldly replied, “That’s because your methods of pleasing me are too crude.”
Shirley was lett speechless. Were they really that cride?
“Then how do you want to be pleased?” she asked.
Shirley always considered herself a smart and capable woman. Aside from her lack of business talent. But now, she was
beginning to doubt her own intelligence. After a pause, Benjamin added, “I heard that when you were bom, someone said you
brought a treasure trove with you, that you’d bring fortune to your husband, wealth, and prosperity to your family. Do you think
that’s true?”
Shirley shook her head immediately. “No... Actually, I’ve always doubted it. But my luck has always been pretty good
Benjamin arched his brow. “So, you’re planning to rely on luck to run a publicly listed company?–
She was at a loss for words.
Benjamin didn’t bother spealing further and continued to eat his pasta with elegance.
Shirley sat across from him, resting her pretty face on her hands as she watched him with a mix of worry and curiosity. “Then tell
me, what should i do to please you so that you’d accept it?”
Benjamin ignored her.
She stretched out her leg and nudged the tip of his shoe. “Answer me.
Finally, Benjamin lifted his gaze to look at her. His deep, dark eyes seemed to hold a world of mystery. “Shirley, this isn’t called
pleasing–it’s called seduction.” Shirley comected him. “This doesn’t count as seduction. This is just teasing ”
As she spoke, her toes began to trail up his leg, inching higher and higher. “This is what you’d call seduction”
Benjamin frowned slightly, the muscles under his tailored suit tensing. He saidin an icy tone, “Move your foot. Unless you don’t
want it anymore?”
Shirley didn’t dare push her luck. She was still afraid of certain things, especially since her body hadn’t fully recovered yet.
She quickly withdrew her foot, stood up, and took off her apron.
